Our family's sweet, sweet baby "wee-am" (as Harry calls him!) I wanted to capture how huge and lively his eyes were during our little session. Did some experimenting with what little window light I have coming through my house, and some white reflectors to get those big catchlights in his eyes.

What a gorgeous fall wedding Brittany and Jeff had in October. Their story is such a sweet one, they first noticed each other at Sullivan's restaurant, friends intervened to make the connection happen, and their first date at Symphony on the Prairie was when they both knew they had found "the One." It was a joyous, gorgeous, brisk fall day and I am so excited to share some favorites!

What a fantastic e-session I had last night with Katie & Brandon in Lockerbie! The weather and light were so cooperative (along with little Addison!) I am still buzzing from excitement, you guys were a blast to work with, and I can't wait for your wedding next Spring at the Columbia Club!

shilpa + aaron: mendhi ceremony

Friday's Mehndi ceremony was the first of several events in the American/Indian wedding of Shilpa & Aaron. I must get to my other wedding editing but had to share a few favorites with you! lindsey + sean: married

Not even Hurricane Ike could stop the gorgeous wedding of Lindsey & Sean from happening in Bloomington, Indiana this weekend. After pouring cats and dogs all day Friday and the rehearsal, the skies dried up and while it was hot, the day was a gorgeous one for their intimate wedding and reception at The Fields. It was a lovely contrast to their urban engagement session which you may remember from earlier this spring.

What a GORGEOUS day this past Saturday was to get married! Laura & John's morning wedding at the Church at the Crossing was so intimate, and the reception in the Crystal Terrace at the Columbia Club was stunningly beautiful in the daylight. Jim Cerone was the Master of Ceremonies...what a fabulous gentleman and host. Highly recommended!

It was an honor to be a part of Laura & John's joyous day together, you two are blessed with such a wonderful, loving family! Enjoy the sneak peek and if you did, let me know! I love comments!!! :)

On one of the hottest days of the summer so far, Shilpa and Aaron braved the humid temps (at 7:30 am) to create some heat of their own!

Their wedding this fall in Merrillville is going to be amazing, I cannot wait!

Thankfully the morning light paid off, and there was a nice patch of fog over the White River as we started.

Shilpa has such an amazing smile, her whole face just lights up.

The light was changing really fast so we grabbed some city skyline shots.

Then over to the canal, Shilpa found this hidden spot (top secret!) for some amazing shots. I just love how these turned out!

Boy, I have some catching up to do! Here's a peek of some photos from Cindy & Marc's Indianapolis reception at the Columbia Club June 22, 2008. Cindy and I met when I was setting up for Amanda & Mike's ceremony in the lobby. She happened to be shopping for a venue for her reception. We got to chatting and I learned that she and Marc lived in NYC, and were going to have a very intimate candle-lit ceremony there, but that Marc's family was from Indiana so they were going to have a reception in Indy, as well.

I was so thrilled that we ended up working together! Cindy looked stunning in her avant-garde couture gown!

The great thing about the Columbia Club is the front door access to the Soldiers and Sailors monument. Very "Indy" for them to remember their reception by!

And now...my favorite cake shot ever!

Ok, two shots! (heck, I'm going to go all out on the detail shots in this one, so fair warning!)

The flowers and food were all so beautifully presented, I had a hard time not snapping them all night!

The amazing Jessica and my brother Tom welcomed gorgeous little Liam Thomas into the world this morning. Born at 7:44 am, he weighed 7 lbs and 4 oz. I am so excited! Harry is absolutely surrounded by little girls in our family, so I'm so thrilled he'll have a little boy to play with! Welcome little Liam, from your aunt Lynne!

July 4th weekend in review

As we get older, the holidays have become something a little different to me. With our crazy busy lives...jobs, kids, housework, ad nauseum...it seems like we have a hard time carving out time in our regular schedules to hang out and just enjoy the company of our families. I just love spending time with my brothers, their families, and my parents. And so I'm thankful for holidays as a, built in excuse to drop everything else and spend time with one another.

Our 'second mom' Donna has hosted a 4th of July cookout for as long as I can remember. My brothers and her son, Caleb have been in charge of the fireworks and its become somewhat legendary every year to attend their show. This may be the last year as the old farmhouse and its gorgeous acres are for sale.
Everyone had a blast and as always, there was too much good food! Thanks guys for putting on such a great party!

The next night, we went to Symphony on the Prairie for the Star Spangled Symphony. What a gorgeous setting and crowd. Harry loved riding the tractor shuttle with Uncle Tommy.

If you haven't been to Conner Prairie, you're missing out on a gorgeous part of our city's cultural offerings. The view is magnificent, right in the middle of the city.

One of the highlights of the evening was the tribute to our veterans. They played the theme songs to each branch of the Armed Forces, and asked members who were in the audience to stand. Which was cool in and of itself, but then they also had period Revolutionary Soldiers stationed in the crowd who personally went and saluted each person who was standing. Very moving to have our family there and witness my brothers honored this way.

What a wonderful weekend. Hope you had a great one, too!

melissa & jeremy: part two

I had such an amazing time photographing Melissa & Jeremy's wedding. I was so happy to see my friend and client Chris Miller from Millenium Entertainment, Inc. was DJing, so I knew we were in for a great time! Chris has the most amazing staff working with him, and I absolutely love that they use slimline Bose speakers (no big boxy speakers ruining my photos and causing me to spend hours in Photoshop!)

Melissa & Jeremy had the most amazing black and white theme which is so elegant and edgy at the same time. Their placecards were to die for!

They made their grand entrance, my favorite part of a wedding day. Such a fun moment when everyone is relaxed yet so excited!

The cake was an absolute work of art. I need to find out who did it! It was just stunning.

There's just nothing like a parquet dance floor in your first dance pics.

Melissa and Jeremy share their wedding anniversary now with Melissa's parents, who were so adorably in love all day. Congratulations you two!

And the best part of the party? A group that was serious about gettin' down and letting it all hang out. I felt a little weird by not joining in the party! It was that contagious. I'll try my best to narrow it down to my faves. Enjoy!

Meet Lilah (again!)

I had the pleasure of photographing little Lilah when she was a couple of months old, and the camera loved her then:

And during her session last week (she's almost two now!) she was so into the shoot. It was a blast chasing her around all morning. She loves the camera as much as it loves her.

My sister-in-law Karie (who also doubles as my fantabulous assistant) is quite a talented baker. She brought some sinful chocolate cake to my house for Christmas, and I decided to let Harry have a piece this morning for breakfast. Apologies in advance for making you hungry.

I know, I'm such a weirdo for posting pics of my kid eating Christmas leftovers when I should be posting snapshots of him opening presents. Well as you know I have a weird tendency to buck tradition! As hot as Erin and Nick's engagement session day was, their December 1 wedding topped out at 32 degrees. Karie and I had a blast shooting their beautiful wedding in Brownsburg. Here's a sneak peek from their portrait session...they were such troopers!

What an amazing dress, it looked fantastic on Erin and suited her personality so well!

What amazing late November weather we had for Melissa & Jeremy's shoot at Holliday Park, where this cute couple were engaged! We got rained out last Sunday but it was worth the wait! These two are a lot of fun and are obviously great friends. Can't wait for your June wedding, Melissa is going to make one gorgeous bride!

I am so humbled and honored by the outpouring of comments and feedback on my IndyChannel nomination page. I never expected such a slew of warm and thoughtful comments about my work. (I was hoping for 5 or 6 and as of today I have over 30! WOW!) It is truly humbling to read such genuine appreciation for my art from folks that I don't even know, who are fans of my work thru my awesome clients. THANK YOU GUYS! The Family Guys: Happy Birthday

Today is the birthday of two very important men in my life.

First, my little brother Ben, who as a child, made it his mission to frustrate and exasperate his bossy older sister. Luckily, he grew up, and has been my best friend, strongest ally and protector, and is a fantastic husband, dad and uncle. Although he obviously hasn't let that change his bizarre sense of humor.

And Happy Birthday also to Grandpa Howard, who has an unfailing dedication to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He lives for the little ones, and we all love him for it.

Took Harrison out for a shoot yesterday to celebrate the turn in the weather, and wanted to share my favorite shot. His second birthday is in three weeks, I can't believe it! Note the really warm, soft quality of the light; this is why taking pictures an hour before sunset is the most desirable. It doesn't wash out colors or cast hard shadows like mid-day sun.

Spring's Around the Corner!

It's been a while~! February flew by this year, as it usually does (does it seem shorter than other months? haha) I'm busy preparing for my first wedding of 2007 at the end of March, and looking forward to sharing the results! I'm excited to introduce my new assistant, Karie Riley (right), who will be helping me with my "big days" this year. She was the first bride I ever photographed so we have come full circle.

On the family portrait side, I'm excited to be featured in this month's newsletter for the local chain Once Upon A Child. Many of you moms know this great place to buy and sell gently used kids' clothing. They have several locations around Indy, so you should definitely check them out when shopping for spring break!

Speaking of spring, I'm scheduling now for April outdoor and indoor sessions, and I am booked for May, so call me soon to reserve a spot!

Angie's List has a great reputation in Indy, mostly because businesses can't pay to be on....they have to be added by a member. Those of you who haven't checked out "Da List", what are you waiting for? It's a fantastic way to check out others' experiences with any type of service you hire - from florists to plumbers to jewelers.

Take Better Pictures, Part 1

A question I get fairly often is “How can I take better pictures with the camera I have?” I plan to periodically post topics to help you take better pictures every day.

Why compact digital cameras?
Unless you're buying a camera with a detachable lens (an SLR), you're buying a compact digital camera. They're very popular for many reasons. Like most consumers, you want a camera small enough to take everywhere, and you want it to produce sharp, bright pictures at the push of the shutter button. Most of us haven’t read our camera’s manual…and don’t feel we should have to. If you’re among this camp, it might help to know a little more about your camera’s strengths and weaknesses. In certain situations, compact digitals shine. These include outdoor pictures with overcast to bright sunlight. (I took the picture above with a $150 Canon PowerShot on a sunny day).

Unless you have a digital SLR (you'd know if you did!), your digital camera’s lens is very small and needs a LOT of light, especially with moving subjects. Where compacts have a little more trouble is fast action, and indoor low light situations. A compact’s lens struggles to let in enough light indoors to overcome movement – whether by your hand (called camera shake, which can be overcome using a tripod) or a moving target (anything moving faster than a bowl of fruit, which can be overcome sometimes - not always!- by using the flash).

Automatic doesn’t mean accurate – it means easy.
You spot your two daughters playing in the snow and think, “Cute picture time!” You head outside, camera on Auto, and start snapping. But the camera doesn’t see the girls…it sees blinding light from the white, reflective snow. It decides the scene has way more light than it needs, and drops the exposure way down resulting in a dark image…and gray snow. What your camera can’t know – this is where human decision comes in – is that you want the girls to be properly exposed, not the snow. Knowing how your camera will react in a given situation is the key to overcoming this difficult light situation. If your camera has a Manual setting, you would bump UP the exposure, resulting in true colors of the girls, and of course, bright white snow.

Meet Parker!

I had the pleasure of photographing six-month-old Parker this weekend. His parents had been frustrated with studio pictures before, as they wanted to truly capture Parker's exuberant personality! It was a tall order, but I think we got er done! I had a blast playing studio in their cozy home in Eagle Creek. It was a special day because Parker's grandma was in town, and was able to participate too. My favorites were the pics of Dad & son....it's easy to see where Parker gets his great looks and charm.

Something new I'm THRILLED to offer is coffee-table style books filled with images from a shoot like Parker's. I layout each full-color, hardbound book personally, and each book has a unique link so friends and family can order, too! This is a great way to get the images that you loved, but don't have room for every one on display! Its a fabulous conversation piece, and your child will love to see themselves in print in the years to come. Contact me for details...I can do this with past shoots, too!

Happy New Year!

One of my 2007 resolutions was to start a blog, and share more of my work and life with every one of you! This past year has been filled with so many wonderful blessings. My little boy, Harrison, is growing like a weed! As many of you know, he's been my muse all along....tolerating mommy's incessant shutter-bugging since the moment he was born.

He is the reason I wake up every morning, and my motivation for working so hard at growing my photography business. More than anything else, my role as a mother inspires me to capture the poignant beauty in each and every one of your lives.
